Mr. George S. Niculescu is currently the President of the Romanian Energy Regulatory Authority (ANRE), a position he has held since April 2023. Prior to occupying this position of great responsibility at the national level, Mr. Niculescu has been Secretary of State in the Ministry of Energy, where he dealt especially with problems and topics related to electricity, natural gas and oil, as well as with energy security matters in the energy transition context. Previously to his appointment in the Ministry of Energy, Mr. Niculescu held the position of Governor for Constanţa County, between December 2019 - October 2020, managing the activity of the Government at the local level, the decentralized public services of the ministries and other bodies of the central public administration in the administrative-territorial unit. As President of ANRE, Mr. Niculescu coordinates the development, approval and monitoring of the application of the mandatory regulations at the national level necessary for optimal functioning of the electricity, heat and natural gas market in conditions of efficiency, competition, transparency and consumer protection. Also, Mr. Niculescu contributed substantially to the process of developing several laws in the field of energy and participated to numerous national and international conferences in the field of energy as keynote speaker. Mr. Niculescu holds a BA in Law (2004) and an MBA in Energy Entrepreneurship (2018). In addition to all of the above, Mr. Niculescu has excellent leadership, teamwork and communication skills.
