Nomi Bar-Yaacov is a leading award-winning international lawyer, peace negotiator, arbitrator and mediator, driven by a steadfast commitment to equality, justice, accountability and peace. She is a convenor of Track II diplomatic initiatives principally but not exclusively in the Middle East. With more than three decades of experience in international conflict management, she has negotiated complex ceasefire and peace agreements and advised international organisations, governments and non-governmental organisations on conflict prevention, conflict resolution and post-conflict reconstruction. She also advises corporates on leadership, negotiation, and communication. Her work combines legal rigour and extensive practical experience, political insight and foresight. Her distinguished career includes senior appointments at the United Nations, where she served as speechwriter, political adviser and spokesperson for UN Secretary-General Boutros Boutros-Ghali. She also worked at the Department of Political Affairs and in UN field missions in challenging post-conflict transitions in Bosnia, Albania, Guatemala and Haiti, encompassing war-crimes verification, impartial electoral oversight, UN peacekeeping operations, and negotiated political settlements. Since leaving the UN she has worked as a consultant to various UN bodies. Bar-Yaacov is currently a Fellow with the Global Fellowship Initiative at the Geneva Centre for Security Policy. She has held leadership roles at prominent think tanks including Chatham House and the International Institute for Strategic Studies (IISS) where she was the Director of the Middle East Programme and Conflict Management programme. She is one of the most sought after experts on diplomacy, geopolitics and the Middle East for leading medias, including CNN, SKY News, BBC Newschannel, BBC Newsnight, Channel 4 News, Al Arabiya (English) and other global networks. Over the past two years of the conflict between Israel and Gaza, she has been a frequent ‘Presenter’s Friend’ on BBC Newschannel, SKY News and CBC, in addition to providing commentary for a broad range of British and international radio stations. Bar-Yaacov is also a member of the Advisory Board of Women in Security UK, the ACRONYM Institue of Disarmament Diplomacy and The Richard Beeston Bursary.
