As of March 2026 Thijs van Woerden is Director General Universal and Diversified Institutions at the European Central Bank (ECB), responsible for the prudential supervision of around 40 Significant Institutions across 14 EU countries. Before that Thijs was Director General Horizontal Line Supervision at the ECB, mainly responsible for providing risk benchmarking, policy and methodology development (since March 2024). Previously he was Division Director European Banks Supervision at De Nederlandsche Bank (DNB), responsible for all DNB staff working in Joint Supervisory Teams supervising Dutch Significant Institutions. From 2012 until 2018, he was Division Director Insurance Supervision. Before that he held managerial roles in DNB’s Insurance Supervision and Supervision Policy Divisions. Prior to joining DNB he worked as a consultant financial services at Accenture. Thijs holds a Master degree in Economics from the University of Amsterdam.
