Spiros is a Professor at the School of Production Engineering and Management at the Technical University of Crete and Director of the Laboratory of Industrial, Energy and Environmental Systems. He is also an Affiliate Professor at ESCP Business School, London. His expertise lies in Renewable Energy Sources, energy efficiency, and energy-saving applications. His research interests cover a broad range of topics, including various aspects of Renewable Energy Sources (assessment and advanced applications of technologies, with particular emphasis on photovoltaic and solar thermal systems, implementation of national policies related to Renewable Energy Sources, renewable energy-based heating and cooling applications, Life Cycle Assessment and environmental impact analysis of large-scale technologies), Sustainability and Circular Economy, energy-saving devices, smart material technologies for energy-related applications, and energy performance assessment of building components. Within the framework of his academic work, he has published more than 70 articles in peer-reviewed international journals and has received over 3,500 citations, with a current h-index of 35. In addition, he has actively participated in more than 60 research projects. He has presented his work at numerous international energy-related conferences and has served as a reviewer for international journals in the fields of Renewable Energy, Energy Efficiency, and Energy Policy. He has also been a member of several professional and academic associations, including the International Association for Energy Economics and the International Solar Energy Society. Furthermore, he has delivered lectures and supervised postgraduate theses at various academic institutions, including ESCP London, EADA Business School (Spain), and Montpellier Business School Spiros is the President of the Hellenic Association for Energy Economics and has been ranked among the top 2% of scientists worldwide in the field of Energy for the years 2022–2025, according to the World’s Top 2% Scientists ranking published by Stanford University.
