Stelios Sakaretsios serves as Secretary General for Transport of the Hellenic Republic, where he leads the digital transformation of Greece’s transport infrastructure and operations. Within the first months of his tenure, he has driven a series of high-impact reforms, most notably the launch of railway.gov.gr — a pioneering platform that provides, for the first time in Greece, real-time monitoring of the national railway network with centimeter-level precision. The initiative marks a major step forward in transparency, safety, and operational efficiency for public transport. Previously, he served as President of the Hellenic Cadastre, where he led one of the most ambitious digital transformations in the Greek public sector. Under his leadership, land registration progress accelerated from 39% to 65% — the largest increase ever recorded — while the organization became the first public institution in Greece to deploy artificial intelligence in administrative decision-making, gaining international recognition and being featured as a Microsoft case study. Prior to his public service, he held the position of Head of Digital Operations at the Hellenic Development Bank (HDB), where he played a key role in delivering strategic digital initiatives, including the “Know Your Customer” platform, enabling thousands of businesses to access financing through fast and streamlined processes. With more than 15 years of experience in digital transformation and complex systems design, he has advised leading private sector organizations on large-scale technology-driven change. He holds a degree in Business Administration from the University of Piraeus and a Master’s degree in Digital Innovation and Startup Entrepreneurship from the National Technical University of Athens and the University of the Aegean.
