Ivan Ivanišević holds a Law degree from the University of Montenegro (2004) and completed the Diplomatic Academy “Gavro Vuković” (2006), along with several specialized programs organized by the COE (2003, 2005), the Diplomatic Academy in Vienna (2006), and the Clingendael Institute in The Hague (2006). He is fluent in English, French, and Italian, with working knowledge of Spanish. He has received recognition for his proficiency in French language and culture. Ivanišević began his diplomatic career in the Department for Multilateral Relations. He served in Montenegro’s first post-independence Embassy in Slovenia, and as Assistant to the Government’s Special Envoy for Montenegro’s accession to the Council of Europe. Upon returning to Montenegro in 2011, he was appointed Director for the OSCE and Council of Europe and served as National Coordinator for Francophonie. In 2013, he became Director General for International Cooperation and European Integration at the Ministry of Interior of Montenegro. In 2016, he returned to the Ministry of Foreign Affairs and European Integration as Head of the International Legal Service. He served as Minister Counselor at the Embassy of Montenegro in Serbia. From February 2017 to July 2019, he was Director General for Multilateral Affairs and Regional Cooperation at the Ministry of Foreign Affairs of Montenegro. In July 2019, Mr. Ivanišević was appointed Ambassador of Montenegro to the Republic of France and Permanent Delegate to UNESCO. He was also non-resident Ambassador to Andorra, Monaco, and Portugal. Since July 2025, Ivanišević holds the position of the Director General for EU affairs at the MFA of Montenegro.
