Anna K. Batistatou is Rector and Chair of the Governing Council of the University of Ioannina, Greece, and has been re-elected for the 2026–2030 term. She holds an MD from the University of Patras, Greece (1988), a M.A (1990), a M.Phil. (1990) and a PhD (1993) from GSAS, Columbia University, NY, USA. She is Professor of Pathology and Director of the Department of Pathology of University of Ioannina, and Department of Pathology/Cytology of University Hospital of Ioannina. She has continuous diagnostic, teaching, and research activities. Her research interests focus on molecular pathogenesis of malignant neoplasms, the study of prognostic and predictive markers, and the applications of AI in Pathology. Her teaching focuses on Pathology and Medical Humanities. She has 232 international publications (PubMed), with 5886 citations and h-index:40 (Scopus). During the last decade she has held senior roles in National and European scientific bodies: President of the Hellenic Society of Pathology, Coordinator of the Working Group for the Residency in the Medical Specialty of Pathology and Member of the Oncology Committee of the Central Board of Health (KESY)/Ministry of Health, Member of the Pathology Specialty Examination Committee, Member (representing Greece) of the European Union of Medical Specialists – UEMS (Section of Pathology/European Board of Pathology), Member of the Advisory Board and of the Educational Committee of the European Society of Pathology and Chair of the Organizing/Scientific Committee in Panhellenic Pathology Conferences, Meetings and Courses. Beyond her scientific work she is the author of the literary book «Life in Stone, Ed. FAGOTTOBOOKS, 2016.
