Andreas Kourkoulas is one of the most influential architects of his generation. He studied architecture at the National Technical University of Athens, continued his postgraduate studies at the Architectural Association Graduate School in London and completed his PhD at the Bartlett School of Architecture of U.C.L., on “Linguistics in Architectural Theory and Criticism after Modernism”. Together with Maria Kokkinou, they founded the office “Kokkinou Kourkoulas Architects and Associates”, which has been active in Athens since 1987, and have distinguished themselves among Greek architects with multiple awards, exhibitions and publications of their work. With equal emphasis on spatial organization, materiality and the manipulation of light, the aesthetic form of their buildings varies considerably, but is always an unforgettable expression of the underlying spatial qualities of architecture. He is an Emeritus Professor at the NTUA and Former Vice Chairman of the Board of National Archaeological Museum, actively participating in the public sphere on architecture and culture in Greece.
