Professor Ioannis Chatjigeorgiou has been the Rector of the National Technical University of Athens (NTUA) since November 2023 and is a Professor in the School of Naval Architecture and Marine Engineering (SNA&ME). Previously, he served as the Vice Rector for Research and Lifelong Education (2019–2023) and is currently the Director of the Laboratory of Floating Structures and Mooring Systems. He is an active researcher, while his research is focused on linear/nonlinear hydrodynamics, hydroelasticity, mooring systems, and sustainable marine energy. A recipient of the prestigious Marie Curie Research Fellowship (2014), he has been a Visiting Professor at NTNU, Ecole Centrale Marseille, and the University of East Anglia. He has also been recognized in Stanford University's list of the top 2% of researchers worldwide (2020–2022). Professor Chatjigeorgiou serves on multiple editorial boards and has published more than 180 scientific articles. He is the author of “Analytical Methods in Marine Hydrodynamics” (Cambridge University Press, 2018) and “Dynamics of Pipelines for Marine Applications” (Springer, 2023).
