Udaibir Saran Das is Vice Chair of OMFIF and Senior Advisor to the International Forum of Sovereign Wealth Funds. Across a four-decade career at the IMF, the BIS, the World Bank, the Reserve Bank of India, and the Bank of Guyana, he has helped shape global financial architecture and good financial system practices—authoring international standards, leading stability assessments for major economies (including China, France, Japan, and the UK), and advising over 40 governments and central banks. At the IMF, he directed policy on stress testing, sovereign balance sheet risk, foreign-exchange reserves, and debt strategies, representing the Fund at the Basel Committee and Financial Stability Board. At the BIS, he served as Head of Basel III Implementation, establishing the global framework to evaluate capital and liquidity compliance across systemically important banks. His current focus is sovereign finance in a quantum world, the sovereignty premium, and capital absorption capacity, especially as it applies to the Global South and emerging economies. He occasionally teaches for the Bank of England (CCBS), the Toronto Center, the University of Navarra, and the Kautilya School of Public Policy, and sits on the boards and advisory bodies of the Institute of Sovereign Investors, ORF America, NCAER, and the Bretton Woods Committee. A regular blogger and podcaster, Mr Das holds degrees from St. Stephen’s College, Brandeis, and Boston University, where he was a Fulbright–Humphrey Fellow and a lecturer.
