Thanassis Chouliaras is a Cultural Studies Scholar, PhD candidate, professional singer, street/film/stage performer, and producer. His PhD research is on contemporary Athens’ cultural identity. He holds a Master’s degree in Cultural and Cinema Studies from the Media and Communication Department of the National and Kapodistrian University of Athens. His degree includes research on observational documentary, art criticism and performance theory. His thesis is on Street Art and the Cultural Identity of the City. Additionally, he holds a Bachelor Degree in Teaching of Technology, Communication and Digital Systems with specialization in Education-Pedagogy from the University of Piraeus. His BA thesis is on Educational Systems in Music, Aesthetics and Music Pedagogy. He has a degree in Contemporary Music from the Philippos Nakas Conservatory, with specialization in singing and performing. As a scholar, with background in tech and cultural studies, he currently participates in several research and cultural projects in the field of graffiti, street art and the identity of the city. His book “THE EYES OF THE CITY; A complete overview of street art, the case of Athens” was published in 2021. He has published numerous articles in cultural magazines and he is currently working on an anthropological documentary film. He is the front man and a founding member of the rock band KOLLEKTIVA. The band is socially and politically conscious, it operates collaboratively, and has a large portfolio; ranging from numerous music albums, live concerts, experimental performances, music videos and a theatrical mise en scène of a concept album. As its main producer, he has further spearheaded and supervised activities which have broken performance limits by incorporating social and cultural elements. Some of those activities are: a publication of an international collection of anti-fascism songs and music composition for theater plays and TV shows. Moreover, he has launched a parallel solo career which already counts music albums, and participation in musicals, dance videos, and other performances. His most recent work involves an anthology of notable Greek poems set to music.
