Born in Augsburg in 1965, Markus Ferber initially worked as a development and sales engineer in the fields of microelectronics and environmental technology before being elected to the European Parliament in 1994 to represent Swabia.  There he was initially spokesman for the Young Group of the EPP Group until 1999, and from 1996 to 1999 parliamentary manager of the CDU/CSU Group in the EP.  From 1999 to 2014 he was chairman of the CSU group, since 2013 spokesman of the parliamentary group of small and medium-sized businesses, from 2014 to 2018 first vice-chairman of the Committee on Economic and Monetary Affairs, since 2018 coordinator of the EPP group of this committee in the EP. Ferber is also a substitute member of the Committee on Transport and Tourism. In addition, he is district chairman of the CSU Swabia and has been state chairman of the Europa Union Bayern from 2000 until 2021.
