Inspired by a visit to Spinalonga, the abandoned Greek leprosy colony, Victoria wrote The Island in 2005.  The novel became an international bestseller, translated into 40 languages, and sold over 6 million copies worldwide.  It was turned into a 26 part Greek TV series which achieved record ratings for Greece.  The sequel is currently in pre-production for ERT. Following The Island, Victoria has written novels set in Athens, Thessaloniki and Cyprus, her focus being the turbulence of Greece’s 20th history.  All of them have been number one bestsellers, in the UK and internationally. In 2020 she was awarded Honorary Citizenship by the Greek President for her promotion of Greece.   Victoria is Patron of Knossos 2025 which is raising funds to renew the British School at Athens research centre in Crete, and in 2019 she was awarded an Honorary Doctorate from the University of Sheffield.
