He served as President of the Hellenic Parliament during the 16th Parliamentary Term (Oct 2015- Jul 2019). He elected MP of SYRIZA in the 1st Constituency of Athens in the elections of May and June 2012. Re-elected in the January and September 2015. Also re-elected in the elections of July 2019. He served as Minister of Interior and Administrative Reconstruction in the first SYRIZA- ANEL government (Jul- August 2015). He also held the position of Secretary of the parliamentary group of SYRIZA (2012-2014). In the current Parliamentary Term, he participates in the Conference of the Presidents of the Hellenic Parliament. He is also a member of the Special Permanent Committee on Institutions and Transparency of the Hellenic Parliament and of the Standing Committee on National Defense and Foreign Affairs.
