Ambassador of the Republic of Cyprus in Greece

He was born in Limassol in 1972. After his graduation from Lanitio Lyceum B, he served his military service, from 1989 to 1991, when he was discharged with the rank of Artillery Second Lieutenant Reserve of the Cyprus National Guard. He graduated from the Law School of the National and Kapodistrian University of Athens. During his undergraduate studies he actively participated in the Student Movement, as elected President of the Cyprus Democratic Party’s student union, Anagenissis, in Athens, President of National Student Union of Cypriots in Athens (EFEK), as well as President of the Pancyprian Federation of Student Unions (POFEN). He graduated with distinction (9,65/10 – “Excellent”) from the Postgraduate Program of Philosophy of the Faculty of Philosophy, Pedagogy and Psychology of the School of Philosophy of the National and Kapodistrian University of Athens. His graduate dissertation, titled “Rights, Ethical Theories and Bioethics”, was approved with distinction (grade description “Excellent”) by a three-member examining committee appointed by the Department of Philosophy of the Faculty of Philosophy, Pedagogy and Psychology of the School of Philosophy of the National and Kapodistrian University of Athens. Since 1st July 2014, he has assumed the duties of Ambassador of the Republic of Cyprus in Greece (Athens), with parallel diplomatic accreditations in Albania (Tirana) and Georgia (Tbilisi). Prior to his posting in Athens, in March 2013, he assumed office as Minister of Education and Culture of the Republic of Cyprus, a post he occupied until March 2014. During the period 1997 to 2013, he practiced law and in 2008 he founded his own law firm in Limassol, Cyprus. For a number of years he served as Secretary General of the Cyprus Democratic Party (2007-2014), as well as Commissioner of Justice and Legal Affairs (2009-2014). He has been honored, among other distinctions, by municipalities, universities and organizations both in Cyprus and abroad. He is an honorary citizen of Chios and Oinousses Municipalities. He is a Ph.D. candidate of the Faculty of Philosophy, Pedagogy and Psychology of the School of Philosophy of the National and Kapodistrian University of Athens. The topic of his Doctoral Thesis is: "The Political Philosophy of International Relations in the Eastern Mediterranean". His research interests include the Ethics of Law, in general, Philosophy and International Relations (Ph.D. c. In International Ethics: Philosophy and Public Affairs) in particular, and specifically, the issues related to Political Philosophy, Politics and Ethics in International Relations and International Law, the role of international institutions and historical international interventions in the Eastern Mediterranean region. He has attended and participated in series of lectures organized by the Open University of Cyprus, the National and Kapodistrian University of Athens, the University of Peloponnese and the Nomiki Vivliothiki S.A., the largest legal publishing house in Greece. He has been invited as guest speaker to a number of conferences, workshops and seminars in politics, political and related fields. He is particularly interested and addresses the major issues of Foreign Affairs and Security Policy and the various aspects of the Cyprus Problem in the international and internal political stage. His articles have been included in national and foreign scientific volumes, as well as in domestic academic journals, while he regularly writes for the daily and weekly press.
