Nikos Tsafos is the James R. Schlesinger Chair in Energy and Geopolitics at the Center for Strategic and International Studies (CSIS). Nikos is a widely recognized expert and a prolific author who has written for Foreign Affairs, Foreign Policy, CNN, EURACTIV, the National Interest, and others. He has appeared on CNN, the BBC, NPR, Al Jazeera, France 24, and other major stations, and he is often quoted in leading outlets like The New York Times, The Economist, The Financial Times, The Washington Post, The Wall Street Journal, The Atlantic, The Guardian, Bloomberg, Politico, and Axios. Nikos has testified before Congress, the U.S.-China Economic and Security Review Commission, the Canadian House of Commons, and the Alaska State Legislature. In addition to his role at CSIS, Nikos serves on the Chair’s Committee on Climate of the Export Import Bank of the United States (EXIM). Before CSIS, Nikos worked as a consultant, having advised companies and governments in over 30 countries on some of the world’s most complex energy projects. He spent almost four years as an advisor to the Alaska State Legislature on the Alaska liquefied natural gas project, and he taught at the Johns Hopkins School of Advanced International Studies (SAIS) from 2016 to 2019. Nikos is also the author of Beyond Debt: The Greek Crisis in Context (2013). He holds a B.A. in international relations and economics, with a minor in statistics, from Boston University, and an M.A. in international relations from Johns Hopkins SAIS.
