Antonis Langouranis

Director, Nephrology Department, "Alexandra" General Hospital (1999-2010), Greece

Antonis Langouranis, born in Amfissa, Fokida-Greece, in 1948, graduated from the Medical School of the National and Kapodistrian University of Athens (NKUA,) in 1973. He served as trainee in Internal Medicine (1976-1979) and then in Nephrology (1980-1983), obtaining relevant specialty titles in 1980 and 1983. He received his Doctorate Degree from the University of Athens’ Medical School in 1988. He served in several hospitals in Athens practicing Clinical Nephrology. From November 1995 until the end of 1999, he served at the Hellenic National Health Service (NHS) as Medical Director of the State Coordination and Control of Extrarenal Dialysis and Transplantation Service (based in the General Hospital "G. GENNIMATAS"). Since then and until June 2010, when he retired, he served at the post of Director of the Nephrology Department at "Alexandra" General Hospital (NHS). He co-authored several textbooks and participated in the NKUA Medical School educational program. He has also co-authored numerous  articles in scientific journals, as well as articles about health and healthy lifestyle, published in daily and other newspapers. He has also participated in radio and TV round tables and interviews and has given a series of lectures, throughout the country, on transplantation, organ donation and other medical issues. He is a member of several scientific societies and has received honorary distinctions from hospitals and other institutions for his contribution in promoting organ donation. His research work has been published in Greek and foreign medical journals. He is the author of the bestselling book titled “Who can heal us” (in Greek), Koukkida, (1st ed. 2008, 5th ed. 2018). His tutor on classical guitar was the leader and soloist Dimitris Fampas.
