Dr Petros Varelidis Petros Varelidis is Director at the Natural Environment and Climate Change Agency (ex National Center of Environment and Sustainable Development) since October 2016. The NECCA is responsible for the coordination and implementation of natural environment policy and deals also with climate change and sustainable development issues advising the Ministry of Environment and Energy on relevant policy issues and preparing the State of the Environment Report. He has a PhD on Chemical Engineering and Diploma from National Technical University of Athens and a diploma of Management and Business from the Economic University of Athens. For many years he has served as a policy advisor of successive Greek Environment Ministers (from 2009 to 2019) as well as environment attaché of Greece and Cyprus at the EU. He served as Chairman of the EU Council of the Working Group on the Environment in the second half of 2012 (on behalf of Cyprus) and in the first half of 2014 (on behalf of Greece).
